Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has described the launch of Coleman Technical Industries Limited’s new fibre optic cable factory in Sagamu, Ogun State, as a major step in the country’s journey toward industrial and digital growth.
Speaking after attending the ceremony, Dr. Tijani said the event was a proud moment for Nigeria, coming at a time when the federal government is pushing to expand broadband access across the country through its Project BRIDGE initiative. The minister said the new factory, which is the largest of its kind in Africa, will play a key role in meeting Nigeria’s goal of deploying 90,000 kilometres of fibre optic network nationwide.
He explained that producing these cables locally marks a turning point for the nation’s digital economy. “The establishment of a factory capable of manufacturing this critical component right here at home by a local company is a truly significant milestone,” Dr. Tijani said. “The timing could not be more perfect.”
According to him, the facility will not only meet Nigeria’s fibre optic needs but also serve as a continental hub, supplying other African countries with the same infrastructure in the coming years.
The minister congratulated Coleman Technical Industries Limited (CTIL) for its 50 years of excellence in cable manufacturing and praised the company’s leadership for its commitment to local production and innovation. He also commended Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for creating an environment that continues to attract investors and industries to the state.
Dr. Tijani expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “visionary leadership,” noting that the President’s target of growing Nigeria into a $1 trillion economy is backed by “bold, deliberate reforms.”
He concluded by saying that Nigeria is entering a new phase of progress driven by those who believe in the country’s potential and invest in its growth. “A new Nigeria is indeed emerging,” he said, “one that is being built by those who believe in her potential, invest in her people, and produce proudly within her borders.”
