Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, during a panel session at the Berlin Global Dialogue in Germany.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has shared how Nigeria is building stronger ties with other countries while promoting clean energy and green investment. He spoke during the Berlin Global Dialogue, an international event that brings together world leaders and policymakers.

Tuggar said Nigeria’s foreign policy focuses on fairness, respect, and independent decision-making — all in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He explained that Nigeria is not trying to take sides in global politics but to act as a bridge between countries. “Our strength lies in bridge-building, not bloc alignment,” he said.

During a panel on the role of middle-power countries in today’s world, Tuggar said Nigeria’s position as Africa’s biggest economy gives it a strong voice in promoting peace, fairness, and cooperation.

At another session, the Green Guarantee Group Roundtable, he spoke about Nigeria’s work in green finance — the use of money to support projects that protect the environment and create jobs. He mentioned some key steps Nigeria has taken:

  • Setting up the Nigeria Credit Guarantee Company (NCGC) to help small businesses and renewable energy projects access funds.
  • Signing a major agreement to support investments in energy transition and green minerals.
  • Strengthening coordination through the National Council on Climate Change.

Tuggar said green finance is not about charity but about smart investment. According to him, Nigeria is proving that protecting the environment can also make economic sense.

He ended his speech by saying that global diplomacy should be based on working together rather than seeking control. “Diplomacy today is about cooperation, not domination,” he said. “Nigeria is ready to help build a fairer and greener world.”

The Berlin Global Dialogue gave Nigeria a platform to show that it wants to grow its economy responsibly while helping to protect the planet and build stronger international partnerships.
